Title of lesson:Get to know the characters and relationships of Romeo and Juliet
Description of lesson: Students will be working together with pairs for this assignment and create a character relationship sketch.
Assignment: Students will begin understanding the relationships and character traits of different characters in Romeo and Juliet. They will construct a dinner party for all characters in the play including dialogue and conversation between the characters sitting next to each other at the party. No family member can sit next to eachother; we need to merge the two families so they can begin to get along.
Resources/materials needed: I have provided a character map below to help you see how everyone is related with one another. With the character map, think about the discussions that characters have had with one another throughout the play so far. What may Lord Capulet and Lord Montague speak about at a civil dinner party?
Technology reflection: Students can use the technology I have provided to begin understanding relationships within the play. If students changed the play, would the outcome be different?
Evaluation: (as a classroom teacher, this will be where you jot your notes on what went right, what needs to be changed, etc.)
Students don't need much technology for this project but it will be nice for them to have a resource that they can access whenever they are at a computer to begin discussing how the relationships within the play affect the behavior of others. This will connect to students own relationships with different people in their lives. What would it be like to talk to someone you wouldn't normally? What would you learn? These questions will drive the assignment if done correctly.
